OPENING | JoJo Spook: Washed Up

Opening alongside AGSA Screen: Wavelength in our Foyer Gallery (opposite Bob Hawke Gallery, Level 2) is Washed Up by JoJo Spook.

Born on the Mornington Peninsula and now based in Robe, South Australia, artist JoJo Spook is well known across the Limestone Coast. This exhibition features her distinctive Ghostnets – artworks made from recycled materials and items found washed up on the beach.

Abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear – often called ‘ghost gear’ or ‘ghost nets’ – is one of the most damaging types of plastic pollution in our oceans. JoJo transforms this hazardous material into striking artworks, raising awareness of environmental issues while exploring themes of reuse and transformation. Her practice spans painting, welded metal sculpture, foundobjects, and Ghostnets, often infused with satirical humour reflective of her environment.
